CFA UK Investment Management Certificate
The Investment Management Certificate (IMC) is administered by the CFA Society of the UK (CFA UK), whose main purpose is to foster and maintain high standards of professional ability and practice in investment analysis, portfolio management and related disciplines. It was introduced in 1994 as the benchmark competency examination for the Investment Management Regulatory Organisation and the Personal Investment Authority for those engaged in discretionary or advisory management of investments. The syllabus was significantly updated in December 2001, when the Financial Services Authority (FSA) became the single regulatory authority for the UK financial services industry, again in 2007 in the light of changes in the industry, and once more in 2010 in line with the Retail Distribution Review. It reflects all changes to relevant laws, regulation and industry practice.
The IMC qualification is attained by passing two Unit examinations — Unit 1: the investment environment and Unit 2: investment practice). The examinations covers all 27 topic areas that make up the syllabus. Unit 1 is tested through an examination lasting 100 minutes containing 75 multiple choice questions and gapfill questions. Unit 2 is tested through an examination lasting 140 minutes containing 105 multiple choice and gapfill questions.
